The Band Director
Oscar Prado is the Director of Bands at Bass Middle School. In this role, he oversees all aspects of the band program, including the direction of the 6th Grade Beginning Band, Concert Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Wind Ensemble.
Mr. Prado earned his B.M. in Music Education from Georgia State University and his Masters in Music Education from the University of Georgia. While at GSU, he studied trumpet with Dr. Amanda Pepping and Mike Tiscone, and performed with a variety of ensembles, which included the University Jazz Band, University Orchestra, and the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Before finishing his music studies at GSU, Mr. Prado resided in Miami, FL and studied music while attending Florida International University and marched for FIU's Golden Panther Band.
Mr. Prado began his band directing career in Newnan, GA at Smokey Road Middle School. Ensembles and students under his direction consistently earn Superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluations and Solo and Ensemble festival. Students also participate in County, District, and State level Honor Band events, including Coweta County Honor Band, GMEA District 6 Honor Band and GMEA All-State Band, as well as other university sponsored events such as the University of Georgia Honor Band Festival.
Mr. Prado is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association and the National Association for Music Educators. He is also a staff member of the Northgate High School Viking Marching Band and a director of the Northgate Jazz Band. Mr. Prado currently resides in Newnan, GA and is happy to call Bass Middle School a home away from home.
