BMS ENSEMBLES

The BMS bands are comprised of the 6th Grade Band, Concert Band, The Red and Bold Pep Band and The Jazz AmBASSadors. The 6th grade band and the 7th and 8th grade concert bands meet daily as part of the connections courses offered throughout the school day. All of the band classes are year long classes.

6th Grade Band

Due to the large number of 6th grade students that register to be in band, the 6th Grade Band is split into two class periods. It is in the 6th grade where fundamental skills are learned and therefore it is essential to complete the full year in order to transition with ease into any of the ensembles offered in 7th and 8th grade.

6th grade band members perform two concerts a year, a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert. After learning some basic fundamental skills on their instruments, 6th graders have the opportunity to audition for a spot in the Coweta County Honor Band, during the Spring semester! The County Honor Band hosts a 6th grade honor band and a combined 7th and 8th grade honor band that are led by nationally renowned music educators that are brought in to work with our students. It is a two day event that culminates with a performance from each of the two honor bands!
All of our students are encouraged to participate in this honor band event. Finally, members of the 6th grade band can also pastitipcate in the annual Solo and Ensemble event, organized by the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Solo and Ensemble provides 6th, 7th, and 8th graders the opportunity to team up with fellow band members of their choosing to create small ensembles (duets, trios, quartets, etc) or prepare a solo to be performed for a GMEA adjudicator and receive a rating.

7th and 8th Grade Bands

With a foundation built in 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade band members continue to further their musical studies by building upon fundamental skills that lead into more complex band literature. Similarly to 6th grade band, 7th and 8th grade band is a year long class. These classes perform in two school concerts, the Winter and Spring Concerts. 7th and 8th grade band members also have the opportunity to join any of the two after school performance groups, "The Red and Bold Pep Band" and/or "The Jazz AmBASSadors".

Along with more performance opportunities in multiple bands, 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to audition for County Honor Band, District Honor Band, and All State Honor Band. In addition to auditioning for honor band events, students can be nominated to be selected by University Honor Band events, such as the Auburn University Honor Band and the University of Georgia MidFest Honor Band.

The Red and Bold Pep Band

“The Red and Bold Pep Band” is at the heart of the Bulldog Spirit! The band is open to all 7th and 8th graders! The purpose of the Red and Bold is to elevate school spirit and culture, and to publicly represent our Bass community with dignity, vigor, and BOLD pride!! The band will perform at all Bass home football games, pep rallies, and wherever else our community needs us to show Bold Bulldog Pride! We are the Red and Bold!

The Jazz AmBASSadors

The “Jazz AmBASSadors” is Bass Middle School’s jazz band open to all 7th and 8th graders with the permission of Mr. Prado. Members of the jazz band will experience American standards, jazz standards, latin jazz, pop music, and other contemporary compositions. Students will also experience other instruments not typically experienced in a Concert Band setting, such as the drum set, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, and other instruments used in contemporary pop music, along with the traditional brass and woodwind instruments. Students in this ensemble are those committed to expressing their musical skills in other forms apart from the traditional concert band experience. Students will perform in school concerts and in community events.
